01. About
Petržalská pláž was a project for a new beach bar located at Veľký Draždiak lake, a popular recreational spot in Bratislava–Petržalka, Slovakia. The concept aimed to create a vibrant destination where visitors could relax, socialize, and enjoy the unique atmosphere of the lakeside environment.
The site is located directly behind the Tennis Club Slávia Právnik and has developed a distinctive character over time thanks to its unique surroundings. The nearby lake, combined with the urban landscape of Petržalka—the largest borough of Bratislava, known for its iconic Communist-era apartment blocks—creates a contrasting yet recognizable setting that strongly influences the atmosphere of the area.
02. Visual Identity
To reflect the identity of the beach bar and its surroundings, we designed the logo for Petržalská pláž using simplified shapes inspired by the local landscape. The composition references the silhouette of the tennis club hall, the apartment blocks rising behind it, and the rhythmic pattern of the lake’s waves in the foreground—capturing the view one experiences when observing the area from the lake.
The unique location of Petržalská pláž played a key role in shaping the branding strategy and served as the primary source of inspiration for the visual identity. In addition to the stylized depiction of the site—forming the central element of the logo—we developed a color palette inspired by the characteristic tones of Petržalka’s residential buildings, primarily using soft pastel hues. To balance these references and avoid an overly nostalgic aesthetic, we paired the visual elements with a light, modern typeface for the logo’s headline. The result is a fresh and contemporary visual identity that reflects the character of the location while maintaining a clean, modern appearance.
03. Outdoor Concept
The entire beach bar area was designed using materials, textures, and spatial arrangements that create a natural harmony with the surrounding environment. The goal was to establish a cohesive space that seamlessly integrates with the lakeside setting while providing a relaxed and inviting atmosphere for visitors.
The selected materials were carefully chosen to create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere while also considering the allocated budget and long-term durability. Given the beach bar’s proximity to the lake, particular attention was paid to materials that could withstand outdoor conditions and regular exposure to moisture.
Given the multifunctional nature of the project—which includes not only a beach bar, but also a sports area, a stage, and a sandy beach—we designed the layout to use the space as efficiently as possible while maintaining an open, spacious, and comfortable environment for visitors.
We believe that the combination of the beach bar, entertainment zone, sandy beach, and sports facilities—including a beach tennis court—will contribute to a more vibrant and enjoyable atmosphere around the lake.
