St. Martin Pharmacia is a pharmacy and niche perfumery concept in Bratislava created by Jana Spanirova. Jana authored the brand name, brand concept, visual identity, art direction, storytelling, graphic design and interior design concept for the St. Martin Pharmacia space in Bratislava’s Old Town.
The objective was to create an original pharmacy and niche perfumery concept in the historic heart of Bratislava — a place where health, beauty, tradition, and elegance could exist as one coherent brand experience. The project aimed to transform a traditional pharmacy into an emotionally memorable destination, combining a modern approach to pharmacy with the wisdom and beauty of the past. The concept was built around the symbolic meaning of the four-leaf clover — love, health, luck, and protection — and translated into the brand identity, logo, storytelling, interior atmosphere, product selection, and customer experience. The brand concept and interior design was originally created for an abandoned space located beneath St. Martin’s Cathedral in the 18th-century Csáky Palace, where a Slovak company wanted to open a new pharmacy. The space was designed to feel timeless and deeply connected to its setting, bringing together Renaissance and Baroque references, French and Italian elegance, Slovak heritage, and custom craftsmanship.

02. Brand Concept
The brand concept of St. Martin Pharmacia was created as an original interpretation of a traditional pharmacy and niche perfumery in the historic heart of Bratislava.
Jana’s aim was to build a place where health, beauty, history, and elegance come together in one memorable experience. The concept is rooted in the symbolic meaning of the four-leaf clover — love, health, luck, and protection — which became the foundation for the name, story, atmosphere, product world, and customer journey. The brand was designed to feel deeply connected to Slovak historical heritage, while offering a refined, contemporary approach to pharmacy, cosmetics, perfumes, and home fragrances. Jana created the name St. Martin Pharmacia as an integral part of the brand concept. The name was composed in direct reference to St. Martin’s Cathedral, located near the space where the pharmacy was planned to be established, anchoring the brand in its specific historical and cultural setting in Bratislava’s Old Town. The word “Pharmacia”, derived from Latin, was chosen to evoke the heritage of old European pharmacies and to reflect the atmosphere of tradition, elegance, and historical continuity that defines the entire concept. Through the name, Jana connected the identity of the pharmacy to its location, architectural surroundings, and the legacy of the Old Town, making St. Martin Pharmacia a distinctive authorial brand rather than a generic pharmacy name.

03. Visual Identity & Art Direction
The visual identity and art direction of St. Martin Pharmacia translate this concept into a refined, timeless design language inspired by classical beauty, European heritage, and local craftsmanship. Renaissance and Baroque references, French and Italian elegance, and subtle elements of Slovak folk art shaped the visual atmosphere of the brand.
The identity was developed through the logo, color palette, typography, printed materials, packaging direction, signage, interior details, and photographic mood. In the interior, this art direction continued through custom-made furniture, marble details, mint-green cabinetry, gold accents, chandeliers, historical illustrations, decorative wall elements, and a carefully composed spatial experience that made the pharmacy feel not only functional, but atmospheric, elegant, and emotionally distinctive.


04. Interior Design
The interior design of St. Martin Pharmacia was conceived by Jana as a complete, custom-designed spatial experience, where every architectural and decorative element was created to support the brand story.
Jana designed the store concept in its entirety — from the wall compositions, stucco decorations, furniture, cabinetry, color palette, materials, lighting atmosphere, and decorative details to the overall customer journey through the space. The interior combines the feeling of a historic European pharmacy with the elegance of a niche perfumery, using classical proportions, marble, gold accents, mint-green furniture, chandeliers, ornamental wall panels, and handcrafted details to create a timeless and emotionally memorable environment. A central element of the entrance experience is the custom oil painting Jana created specifically for the hallway, transforming the corridor into a visual passage connected to the history and atmosphere of Bratislava. The result is an immersive interior where pharmacy, beauty, craftsmanship, and storytelling are expressed as one coherent authorial vision.
05. Curated Decorative Objects
The decorative objects for St. Martin Pharmacia were personally curated by Jana as an essential part of the interior’s atmosphere and storytelling.
Every object was selected to support the character of a historic European pharmacy and niche perfumery — from vases, pharmaceutical jars, flower pots, candle holders, scales, and busts to smaller decorative accents placed throughout the space. These objects were not treated as accessories, but as part of the overall brand experience, helping to create a sense of authenticity, elegance, and continuity with the past. Through this careful curation, Jana transformed the pharmacy into a layered and immersive environment where every detail contributes to the feeling of tradition, beauty, craftsmanship, and refined discovery.
06. Graphic Design
The graphic design for St. Martin Pharmacia was developed by Jana as a complete visual system that extended the brand identity into every customer-facing touchpoint.
Jana designed the full range of graphic materials, including gift bags, roll-ups, banners, presentation materials, printed communication, advertising formats, and digital assets. Each element was created to maintain the same refined visual language as the brand and interior — elegant, historical, balanced, and distinctive. Through consistent typography, ornamental details, classical references, carefully composed layouts, and a sophisticated color palette, the graphic design reinforced the identity of St. Martin Pharmacia as a timeless pharmacy and niche perfumery where beauty, health, tradition, and craftsmanship are expressed with clarity and visual refinement.
From the Process
Award Recognition
St. Martin Pharmacia was awarded 2nd place in the prestigious VISA Slovak Top Shop competition as Store of the Year 2023. The competition evaluates 120 physical retail spaces across Slovakia each year, with the jury assessing criteria such as store concept, interior design, customer orientation, product presentation, payment and digital solutions, and quality of service. This recognition confirmed the strength of the original St. Martin Pharmacia concept as a distinctive, carefully designed retail experience combining pharmacy, beauty, tradition, and refined customer service.

First Store
Thanks to a dedicated team and tremendous effort, the first St. Martin Pharmacia store was successfully completed in the summer of 2022, and was ceremonially unveiled to the public in September 2022. St. Martin Pharmacia finally opened the store store in May 2023.
